Junior Prize awarded to Samuel Raetz

The International Photoacoustic & Photothermal Association (IPPA) has awarded prizes to 2 LAUM researchers.

The Junior Prize was awarded to Samuel Raetz. The prize “recognizes an outstanding researcher in the early stages of his career, who has made a major contribution to photoacoustics, photothermal and related techniques, with applications that are expected to have a significant impact on the scientific community”.

The Gerald J. Diebold Prize in Theoritical Photoacoustics and Photothermics was awarded to Vitali Gusev, in recognition of his seminal theoritical contributions to the field of photoacoustics.

These awards confirm the international recognition of the work of LAUM's “Laser Ultrasonics” team, particularly in experimentation, signal processing, analysis techniques and theory.

Over the past 20 years, the University of Le Mans has become one of the world's leading research centers in the field of ultrafast photoacoustics, currently involving some 8 teacher-researchers and research support staff from LAUM and IMMM. Many international visitors have come to Le Mans to take part in this research. In 20 years, photoacoustic research at Le Mans has led to 16 PhDs and involved around 14 postdoctoral researchers, and many former students and postdocs continue to work productively in the field of photoacoustic and photothermal phenomena.

The award ceremony took place on July 12, 2024 at the ICPPP congress.
