The basics of acoustics: the voice at its best

Start this course (in French)

This MOOC is aimed at adults with a bachelor's degree. It is organized in 4 sessions over 5 weeks.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

• Measure the speed of a wave in a medium and identify the parameters on which it depends
• Visualize and analyze a voice/sound
• Identify why the helium makes your voice sound like a duck's.
• Identify how a sound is encoded as numbers

Start this course (in French)

This MOOC requires a few basic notions of solfeggio (notes and intervals) and calculus (middle school level).

It is divided into 7 parts, over a period of 7 weeks.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, you will be able to :

• Identify different sound archetypes
• Identify the important elements of room acoustics
• Identify the risks and physiological consequences of too loud a sound on the ear
• Master the link between frequency and pitch
• Identify that two notions of pitch coexist: tonal pitch and spectral pitch
• Make the link between beats and dissonance and understand the foundations of musical harmony
• Discover the notion of formant and its link with the perception of timbre
